Cutest Couple Ever Reunites: John Travolta and Olivia Newton John Sing Weird Christmas Carol

Categories: Afterdark

Screengrab/YouTube

John Travolta and Olivia Newton John made us laugh, they made us cry, they made us want to wear all black pleather onesies when they teamed up in 1978 as Sandy Olsen and Danny Zuko in Grease.

And now -- just in time for the holidays! -- they've reunited once again for a cheesy, sappy, 34-years-later song about how great it is to go home for Christmas:

Here comes my hometown/So good to get my wheels down I'm coming home/Toniy-yi-yight

So, a few things to point out about this video. First of all, it pains me to say it, but the scandal surrounding John Travolta and his putting the moves on all of the masseurs has made it a little difficult for me to watch him in this (or anything, really) without his smeared reputation on my mind.

That aside, though, the overall feeling this leaves me with is a sort of mild depression anyway, scandal or no scandal. The duo lacks a little bit of the spark that they once shared in the bloom of their youth, and there's something sad about the saccharine sweetness the director insists on unleashing upon the world. Like, the technicolor car? The fire engine red lipstick? Spare us.

Anyway, I will say to their credit that Travolta and Newton John still manage to make their love look real. One could almost imagine the latter wandering outside her home, staring into a Koi pond and singing about how hopelessly devoted she still is, after all these years.

Maybe this time she'd be wearing a reindeer sweater.
