Adult Swim to Begin Airing Kekkaishi on May 29
Adult Swim has just announced that it will begin airing Kekkaishi during its Saturday night anime line-up on May 29 at 12:30 a.m.
Based on Yellow Tanabe's award-winning manga, Kekkaishi is a supernatural action series with comedic elements. Below is Adult Swim's synopsis of the show:
Yoshimori Sumimura is a junior high school student at Karasumori Academy, which is built upon the Karasumori grounds. By night, Yoshimori follows the tradition passed down through generations and fulfills his destiny as the twenty second "kekkaishi" of the Sumimura clan. But by day, Yoshimori's got other demons to contend with, like an obsession with cake making and a seriously crotchety grandfather! Yoshimori's pretty neighbor, childhood friend and rival, Tokine Yukimura, is also a "kekkaishi," but their families are caught up in a feud over who is the true practitioner of the art. Protecting ordinary people from the ever present danger of the Karasumori grounds, Yoshimori will continue to grow stronger as he battle the forces of evil again tonight!
Kekkaishi is the second of three new anime series to make their way to Adult Swim this year. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood began airing on February 13 in the midnight slot. Kekkaishi will follow FMA: Brotherhood on the Saturday night scheduled. The network's third addition has yet to be announced.
Viz Media has been releasing English-language versions of the manga series since 2005 and added the anime to its Hulu line-up earlier this year.
