Once a year, right before Comic-Con, a whimsical masquerade called Labyrinth of Jareth takes place over the course of two days in Los Angeles. You might recall reading about organizer Shawn Strider in our "L.A. People" issue earlier this year.

This year, Labyrinth of Jareth took place at Park Plaza, a stately venue near MacArthur Park. As always, in order to enter the party, one must wear either a costume fitting with the faeries and goblins theme or a mask. Here are the top 5 masks from their Goblin Clockworks Night.

6. The Non-Mask Mask

Painting your face counts as a mask, right? I think I'm going to try this for LOJ next year because, after a few run-ins with several inanimate objects, I realized that masks aren't necessarily suited for someone as clumsy as I.

5. The Plague Doctor

You can't go wrong with a "plague doctor" mask. It's a classic.

4. Scary Masks

What's a masquerade if someone isn't wearing something scary enough to shock you even when you can barely see through your own gear.

3. Glittery Masks

The glittery, fall leaf is pretty and unusual.

2. The Lace-Like Mask

The lace-like pattern cut into this mask is exquisite. Must find one.

1. The Birdhouse Mask

They Might Be Giants may have a little birdhouse in their soul, but this girl has a giant one on her head. It's amazing.
