Five Fiercest Frocks From Fashion's Night Out 2011

Brow-raising looks at the Phillip Lim store

The annual eve of retail raging called Fashion's Night Out 2011 took place all around the world last night. New York always seems to have the most cohesive FNO and be the most happening hub (with major designer events and parties attracting celebrities and high-caliber entertainment).

In Los Angeles, the biggest events take place inside the Beverly Center shopping mall and on touristy Rodeo Drive, but, as was the case last year, more exclusive parties around town attracted more creative crowds. Last night we enjoyed live music by one of our favorite bands (the packed Phillip Lim store on Robertson Blvd. had NYC duo Cults playing), free libations and snacks (Christian Loubitan's red glazed rice crispie treats with little "L's" on 'em were divine) and a little swag too (free tees at Ron Herman on Melrose Ave., printed bags at Paul Frank on Beverly Blvd).

Though the evening is supposed to be about shopping (stores stay open late all over town), it's really about socializing... and being seen, of course. Cali may be casual, but when it comes to getting glam for parties and social gatherings, we can and do turn it out (see eye makeup on boys above). Here, five of our favorite, fiercest FNO looks from last night.

Mis-matched done right. Stripes and florals in neutrals with pops of color and a friend (f)rocking the same scheme.

Lace tights and taupe shoes make for a cool contrast, as do red bangs and cute headband (which matches the shoes). Another combo we love: flats and foot tats.

There's a lot going on with this colorful trio -- punk rock, Lolita, pinup, boho, art tart -- and we love it all. Charlie's Angels eat your heart out.

Sometimes simple is sexiest. LBDs, bare legs and chucky boots work every time in L.A. The sparkly metallic top and black shorts are nearly as classic at this point. This is Cali casual done right.

Firstly, orange is a touch color to pull off, and he went there...really went there. The sports motif, the Saturn purse and those Chinese Dragon boots! It's all so wrong and yet so right. This kind of youthful fearlessness is what makes fashion fun.
