"What is sex?" the professor asks her class, deadpan, on a hot August day.

The room is quiet except for the steady tapping of a nervous foot, belonging to a tan blonde. It's the first day of class -- summer session at UCLA. The students in "Sex and the Cinema" are a mix: curious female underclassmen, perplexed Asian foreign-exchange tiger children, a back row of overly excited young males in backward caps and board shorts.

Three groups, and then one person who breaks the mold. The blonde. Rachel. Her hair is in pigtails, one hand wrapped around her rhinestone-encrusted iPhone, the other fingering her pink pen. She fidgets and she giggles, her light green eyes glancing from phone to professor constantly. She stashes her Louis Vuitton bag below her desk, tucks her feet under her petite frame and curls up in her seat.

The prof, Jennifer Moorman, says the class will focus on film's relationship with sex, from cinema's early black-and-white days to today's adult industry. Nothing is off limits.

"This is so cool," Rachel coos to herself.

"What is sex?" Moorman asks again.

"Penetration," answers a brave dude in the back row. The class snickers.

Moorman nods and repeats the word. "What else?"

"Intercourse," says a girl who looks like her experience has been limited to reading 50 Shades of Grey.

"Technically, intercourse and penetration can be a variety of orifices," Moorman clarifies.
Rachel can barely control herself, a devilish smile painted ear to ear.

"Is kissing sex?" Moorman prods. The class can't decide. "Whether sex is a positive or negative thing, frequently women being sexual is viewed as bad," Moorman declares.

"I'm a bad girl," Rachel says under her breath.

Is she?

At UCLA, she's Rachel. (Just Rachel -- she prefers that we not use her last name.) A few miles north, in the Valley, she's Tasha Reign, the adult starlet and Penthouse Pet who's made a name for herself by starring in more than 50 films in a little more than a year.

Three groups only? And I love how the way it's written implies that the Asian students don't fall under the other categories of "curious females" and "overly excited young males." And if you know anything about UCLA at all, you'd know there's actually quite a large number of European foreign exchange students.

If this article was meant to make Rachel look good because she's both a porn actress and a student, you have failed, sir. You just made her sound like a terrible student (phone out during lecture). And if that is a legitimate quote, then Rachel is stupid for thinking a photo of a high profile politician and a porn actress wouldn't be controversial. While Clinton might not have been aware of her occupation, words alone are certainly not enough to dodge scrutiny. Especially given his history.

Surely for all those posting hate at Rachel/Tasha need to release that she's actually a big step up from many pornstars. Sure she may not be at the real UCLA but she is furthering her education in a field she has first hand experience in. Are you intimidated by a strong woman who wants to develop her sexuality both inside and outside the classroom? Pathetic.

She's been dressing like a whore (with her thong pulled high above her pants) since she was in middle school. She isn't a pioneer, she's just another woman who grew up without a dad who hates herself and is acting out for the attention she never had.

Summer school at UCLA is not part of UCLA proper, so some random porn star is not a UCLA student. Anyone can attend UCLA summer school, and it does not mean you are a UCLA student if you do. Of course, that would require some effort and intelligence on the part of the writer to deal with that.

@CoronadoBruin If you're taking classes at a college then yes, it does apply to any college that one is a student at that college if they're taking classes there. Day classes, night classes, summer, fall or spring semester... weekends, part time, full time... one is a student regardless of some snobby classmate's ill constructed opinion of what one's classmates do to pay the bills. Are all rich kids with their parents footing the bills at UCLA this snobby or is it just you? This Rachel lady actually works to pay her tuition: that's a great UCLA student role model in my opinion. Congratulations on the upcoming graduation Rachel and keep studying.

Page one is full of ridiculous stereotyping of intelligent UCLA students.

This is a gross set-up of a classroom.Of course these are the first answers given by students. The real atmosphere is one of unease. The professor really does have to drag these things out of students initially. Then a few more students will volunteer more than just penetration as an answer.

It would be nice if you were to include Rachel's answers about what sex is. And maybe a real photo of her on campus. I know this is the LAWeekly but I was actually interested by this prospect of this article.

Notice how the author uses these factoids as signs of her "intelligence" and redeeming quality. "She may be in porn, but she's a good little liberal..." I feel sad that someone who has so obviously learned to do her own thing and find her own way sexually, can't seem to manage the same feat ideologically or politically.
