L.A. Weekly Seeks 2013 Interns
The ideal candidates will be good writers with a passion for talking to people and telling their stories. These are not internships where you'll spend the day with the filing cabinet or surfing the 'net: We'll want you to report, write and come up with story ideas. Yes, there is some grunt work involved (particularly for our Film Intern, who helps manage our schedule of premieres). But recent interns have done everything from creating online video to writing cover stories -- you're here to do journalism, not our busy work.
You don't have to be a journalism student. But, since these are unpaid internships, you do need to be at a college or university that's willing to work with us and provide course credit for your time here. You must also be based in the L.A. area.
If you think you'd be a good fit, send links to three recent pieces, as well as a resume and a cover letter, to our Editorial Manager, Ali Trachta (atrachta [at] laweekly.com). No phone calls, please.
Please indicate in your cover letter which internships you're most interested in -- News, Music, Arts, or Film -- and give us a little idea of your availability beginning in January. We'll work with your college's semester schedule, as well as your class schedule, as much as we can.
