Friday, March 8

As the first official LGBTQ student organization in any evangelical graduate theological school, OneTable at the Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena hopes to facilitate conversation between Christians and the gay community through its first film festival, which continues this weekend at the Travis Auditorium on campus. On Friday at 7 p.m., it will screen the Oscar-nominated documentary How to Survive a Plague, which looks at early AIDS activists.

And at 7:30 p.m., the Egyptian Theatre hosts an evening of shorts in the Cuban Women Filmmakers Showcase. Making its U.S. debut in Los Angeles, this program features films like Oracion (Prayer), which juxtaposes how both Marilyn Monroe and the Latin youth of the 1960s were victims of exploitation. A few of the directors will also be in attendance for a post-screening discussion. Stay a little longer and enjoy the Havana Nights in Hollywood-themed after-party with Cuban cuisine from Versailles and an appearance by Latin Grammy winner Nestor Torres.

Saturday, March 9

Known for his abstract exploration of the many facets of African-American life, Kevin Jerome Everson will be at the screening of Ten Five in the Grass, which centers on the world of black cowboys, as well as a selection of his other shorts, starting at 8:30 p.m. at REDCAT. Everson is getting the Alpert Award, which CalArts gives to innovators in the arts on behalf of the Herb Alpert Foundation.

Wednesday, March 13

If last week's PaleyFest event for The Walking Dead, featuring exclusive footage and cast interviews, wasn't your cup of blood, the same people are bringing PaleyFest Featuring The Big Bang Theory to a theater near you at 7 p.m. (The actual in-person panel at the Saban Theatre is sold out.) This time around, fans of the hit comedy will be able to ask questions live. Yes, even those in the movie theater audience. The entire main cast and the show's creators and executive producers will be attending. Bazinga!

Thursday, March 14

British director Danny Boyle will be at the Aero Theatre at 7:30 p.m., just one month before the premiere of his latest project, Trance. The hourlong discussion will give insight into the mind behind such films as the cult classic Trainspotting, zombie thriller 28 Days Later and the film that won him the Academy Award for Best Director, Slumdog Millionaire.
