If you're going to trust anyone's judgment in horror comic books, it should be the creator of The Walking Dead. Robert Kirkman knows a good horror and the first comic book series to be initially released by his Skybound imprint, Witch Doctor, has emerged as an immediate hit.

Created by Brandon Seifert and Lukas Ketner, Witch Doctor follows the story of Dr. Vincent Morrow, who treats ailments of a supernatural variety. The first issue sold out in two days. Issue #2 was released right before San Diego Comic-Con, with a second pressing of the first installment hitting stores a few days after the convention ended. We met with the creators while we were at Comic-Con.

Effin with Tonight: New Parody of Late Night Talk Shows Stars Patrick Warburton and Host of Celebrity Impersonators

The writers and cast of Effin with Tonight

Patrick Warburton is no doubt a familiar name for TV viewers. The deep-voiced actor, who currently appears on CBS's Rules of Engagement, played David Puddy on Seinfeld, The Tick in the short-lived live action show of the same name and voices two beloved animated characters, Joe Swanson on Family Guy and Brock Samson on The Venture Bros. This September, Warburton will be heading to the web with Effin with Tonight, a new animated take on the late night talk show genre created by former Tonight Show writer Jim Shaughnessy, where he'll play host Ray Effin.

Effin with Tonight, which debuts on Sony's Crackle.com on September 2, differs from late night shows for more than the fact that it's a cartoon. It's a show without the niceties of of pre-recorded chit-chat, a show that aims to take down the culture that enables oftentimes absurd celebrity behavior.

Adult Swim's cult hit The Venture Bros. was back at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Friday's panel featured show masterminds Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer along with James Urbaniak, the voice of Dr. Rusty Venture, dressed like it was 1991 and ready to premiere a new music video from band-within-the-show Shallow Gravy. That night, a party Quality Social in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter featured a set from Flying Lotus and a Venture Bros. costume contest. The following day, Publick and Hammer worked Adult Swim's ice cream truck.

This was our third year covering The Venture Bros. at SDCC and, during that time, we've seen this show that's filled with superscience, supervillains and pop culture references become more popular. We've also learned a few things. With Hammer and Urbaniak slated to appear at Dragon*Con in Atlanta on Labor Day Weekend, we thought we might share a few of these convention do's and don'ts for fans of the series.

The Supernatural panel graduated to the infamous Hall H this year at San Diego Comic-Con. Previously, the television show held its panels at Ballroom 20, the convention's second largest room. Fans were both thrilled and nervous about the upgrade, with some camping out the night before in order to guarantee a spot inside this gigantic 6,000+ seats room. Sera Gamble (executive producer) and Ben Edlund (writer), Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester), Misha Collins (Castiel), Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer) and Mark Sheppard (Crowley) attended this year to say hello to the fans, aka the "Supernatural family." They've often given credit to the fandom for keeping the show on air for six seasons with a seventh one premiering this upcoming fall.

"It's an amazing thing that the internet gives you this chance of seeing what people think. That's pretty amazing. We definitely take it in," Ben Edlund said on how much they pay attention to fans online. "It gives us an indication of what viewer expectation is and that helps us play tension against viewer expectations. We want to scare people and surprise them and make them worried."

Gender Bent Justice League is a group of cosplayers who have taken characters associated with DC's Justice League and transformed them into something that is more Rule 63 than it is crossplay.

"A couple of us like to do female versions of preexisting male characters. One of our friends, Psykitten Pow, she had a female Flash," says Tallest Silver, who organized the group and who dresses as Batma'am. "One night, we were all hanging out and I said how funny it would be if we had a whole Justice League with swapped sexes."

If you were at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, you couldn't miss Adventure Time. The Cartoon Network series about a boy named Finn, his dog Jake and their antics in a magical world filled with princesses and villains stood out this year amidst the sea of comic books, TV shows and movies. Inside the exhibit hall, massive, inflatable versions of Jake and Finn marked Cartoon Network's booth, where passers-by could pick up buttons featuring a different character from the show every day. Offsite, the cable television station had taken over a pizza shop in the Convention Center-adjacent Gaslamp Quarter, decorating it with murals depicting characters from the show. Two to three times daily, a parade headed across Market Street and Fifth Avenue, with Lady Rainicorn-- a rainbow/unicorn hybrid-- held up on poles like a Chinese New Year dragon.

Nathan Fillion is no stranger to comic book conventions. Man or woman, any geek will swoon at the mention of his name. In reverence to his most popular sci-fi series, Firefly, a lot of us still refer to him as 'the Captain.' Seamus Dever (Detective Kevin Ryan), Jon Huertas (Detective Javier Esposito), Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish), Molly Quinn (Alexis Castle) and executive producer, Laurie Zaks joined Fillion at the convention to promote the fourth upcoming season of Castle.

Castle is about Richard Castle (Fillion), a famous mystery novelist who stirs up trouble here and there at the NYPD, forming an unorthodox partnership with Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). Together, they solve crimes and also experience dangerous situations together mixed with Fillion's well-known charming flair.

Friday night, Nickelodeon brought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans a sneak peek at what's in store for the franchise with a pizza party at Basic, near the San Diego Convention Center. This off-site, San Diego Comic-Con exclusive look featured a glimpse at character designs from the forthcoming Nickelodeon series as well as a look at a few new toy designs.

The new series, which is still in development (we were told by producers that they're anticipating a fall, 2012 release, but no dates have been announced yet), is a bit of a departure from previous TMNT-related media. First, it's a CG animated show. Second, and most importantly, the characters will appear more teen-like. Rich Magallanes, Vice President of Animation at Nickelodeon said that the turtles will appear more like "high school football players," solid, but not quite as bulky as they looked in previous series. The voice cast will feature Jason Biggs (American Pie) as Leonardo, Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) as Raphael and Greg Cipes (Ben 10: Alien Force, Teen Titans) as Michaelangelo. Rob Paulsen, who voiced Raphael in the late 1980s series, will be taking on the role of Donatello.

You will all have to forgive me for breaking the fourth wall of blogger "voice" for this one. The third person just won't cut it.

I'm a geek. A geek who was practically weaned on the likes of Doctor Who and Star Trek. And tonight, at the Nerdist Podcast live at 4th & B in the heart of San Diego, on the third night of Comic-Con 2011, The Doctor, his companion Amy Pond, and Wesley Crusher were all together on stage. (Highlight of the night #1 - Karen Gillan has a big ol' squee about meeting Data from Star Trek earlier. Wil Wheaton, who admitted to a massive crush on the lovely redhead, as calmly as possible notes that... dude. He totally knows Data.)

And then as though it couldn't possibly plunge deeper into nerdvana, we got to witness the moment at which it dawned on The Doctor and Amy that in a former life, Wesley Crusher was Gordie in Stand By Me. (Highlight of the night #2 - Matt Smith: "Oh my god, I love that movie. The leeches!")

Torchwood: Miracle Day is about a day when people keep aging or getting hurt but no one on Earth dies.

Having already established itself through its Doctor Who following and growing as its own show, Torchwood is taking this unique sci-fi series from the BBC to the United States' Starz Network. John Barrowman and Eve Myles return as Torchwood's most famous duo, Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper. They are joined by a new American cast which includes Mekhi Phifer (Rex Matheson), Alexa Havins (Esther Drummond) and Bill Pullman (Oswald Danes). Popular sci-fi writer, Jane Espenson (Buffy and Battlestar Galactica) was also there to share her insights about writing for the show.
