Queer Town: Obama Picks Gene Robinson to Deliver Prayer

Thumbnail image for s-BISHOP-large.jpgIn what may be an olive-branch move towards the gay community, President-elect Barack Obama has chosen New Hampshire Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson to deliver a prayer at the opening event of inauguration week, which starts this Sunday in Washington, D.C.

Obama's decision may be some kind of counter-action to his controversial choice of Southern California evangelical Christian minister Rick Warren, a Proposition 8 supporter, to deliver the invocation at the presidential inauguration -- an action that outraged the gay community.

The Robinson pick is all nice and fine, but Obama still needs to step up to the plate and deliver some real policies changes -- gays are past the point of embracing politicians who simply walk in a Gay Pride Parade to show their support.

People want "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" overturned and the Defense of Marriage Act, which is a federal law that designates marriage as between one man and one woman, repealed.  As I've stated before, 2009 is the year of No More Mr. Nice Gay.
