Blade Runner, The Auction

Categories: City News

This Thursday and Friday the Profiles in History auction house will hold an auction to move the remainder of Forrest Ackerman's horror-fantasy movie treasure trove. The 1,000-item bidding event looks like a delightful mishmash of unsold Ackerman artifacts (including a

Dracula ring worn byBela Lugosi and John Carradine), other Hollywood items including the Gilda dress worn by Rita Hayworth, Wolverine's claws and dog tags from the first X-Men film, some original movie posters (a mint-condition Frankenstein one-sheet) and 17 items from Blade Runner.

Undoubtedly the crown jewel here is Rick Deckard's Replicant blaster (seen right) which, the auction's notes tell us, "was created by mating a Steyr-Mannlicher Model .222 SL receiver on to a Charter Arms .44 police bulldog double-action revolver."  Bidders who don't have the $100,000 to $150,000 that the gun is supposed to fetch can sort out who will come away with Harrison Ford's costume, a copy of the script (yes, they eventually settled on one) and director Ridley Scott's very own production jacket.

Perhaps one of the more interesting items will be the Voight Kampff manual. This was the 30-page instruction book that Deckard and other Blade Runners referenced when using their pupil-dilation machines to question individuals suspected of being Replicants. According to Profiles in History, there are actual test questions contained within this prop, although some of its 30 pages are repeats.

Unfortunately the bidding will be conducted mostly by phone and online, but the curious can glimpse what's exactly on the block by going to Profiles' site and searching for the items that are stored at the company's Calabasas facility. There we can all gaze upon the stuff that movie dreams are made of.
