Antelope Valley Press
Say it ain't so! The Antelope Valley Press, that breathless spinner of news about meth-lab busts and County Fair fashions, has begun withholding its full online content for newspaper subscribers only. Now Web surfers are faced with story teasers that end with, "For complete story, subscribe to the Antelope Valley Press for only 25¢ a day."

From today's lead story, datelined Rosamond: "It was a quarter-century since Miss Rosamond represented the Valley as Miss Antelope Valley, but Saturday night at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, that streak ended as Miss Rosamond 2009, Lindsey Williams, won the coveted title and crown, and the privilege of reigning over the 11-day Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival."

Not sure exactly when this recent change went into effect, but it's not fair!  Then again, maybe that extra 25 cents is going to a good cause. Fishbowl L.A. reported in May that a class action lawsuit had been filed against the AVP "in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking compensation for hourly workers that did not receive state mandated meal and rest breaks." Hopefully those workers will start eating soon -- on our quarters!
