Over the Weekend: Burning Man Meets Hollywood, Mustache Circus, Shaun of the Dead Outdoor Screening, Swimming with Sharks Pool Party

Now in the final stretch of summer, each weekend we scramble to take in as many decadent hotel pool parties and outdoor film screenings as possible before the long days and warm nights end and we're forced back indoors to get our drink on at crummy dive bars. This weekend we went Swimming with Sharks at a hotel pool party, ate blood-spattered brain cupcakes at Hollywood Outdoor Cinema's Shaun of the Dead parking lot screening, previewed The Wandering Marionettes' new monthly party coming this fall, and glued on mustaches for Mustache Circus at the Echoplex with bands The Henry Clay People, Fol Chen, The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra and more. Read on for more of what we did and who we saw...

Thursday night's Kabinet Theatre was the first of what will likely become a monthly party this fall, hosted by The Wandering Marionettes. A performance art troupe that combines dance and circus arts with striking costumes and avant-garde electronic music. Over the past few years, The Wandering Marionettes have become one of the most sought-after entertainment groups in Los Angeles. A perfect summertime installment of zombie shenanigans came courtesy of the Hollywood Outdoor Cinema on Saturday, who brought Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's unparalleled Shaun of the Dead to their big inflatable screen parked on Sunset Blvd. and coordinated a fab cross-section of reanimate-related activities to go along with the show. View more photos and read about the event in Nicole Campos' "Got Brains? They'll Settle For Pie: Hollywood Outdoor Cinema's Shaun of the Dead Night."
