Queer Town: Chaz Bono Goes Public About Transgender Transition

Earlier this month, L.A. Weekly wrote about the behind-the-scenes moves involving Chaz Bono's first public acknowledgment of his physical transition from woman to man.

While Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman, who was featured in that Weekly cover story about the gay closet in the entertainment industry and represents Bono, did not expect the child of Sonny and Cher to do any in-depth interviews in the near future, all of that has changed.

Tonight and tomorrow, the Advocate reports, Bono will tell his story on Entertainment Tonight with Mary Hart.

"I always felt like the male from the time I was a child," Bono says during the ET interview. "There wasn't much feminine about me. I believe that gender is something between your ears, not between your legs. That is something I discovered in the early '90s. It was just a long process of being comfortable enough to do something about it. I was turning 40 and I thought, it's now or never. I want to still feel vibrant and be able to enjoy my life in a male body and not wait until I am an old man."

Bono also talks about taking male hormones and how his famous mother, Cher, has been dealing with the transition.

(Correction: A previous post stated "her famous mother." It now reads "his famous mother.")
