• So, how are renters supposed to charge any electric vehicle? With the "power" of prayer? If you are a celeb who lives close enough to the studios, no problem. How about the celebs downsize their ridiculous mansions to go "green"? Or, how about a supermassive sinkhole to swallow Beverly Hills in one gulp. Do we relegate the working poor (who used to be middle class) to a non-existent bus system?

• Wow, so many people hating on the electric car. Humm, there are also other sources of energy, wind power, nuclear, damn generators, and this "clean coal". People must really hate the electric car but why? Long Beach needed those jobs, unemployment is high in Long Beach. We lost the Navy Ship Yard, Boeing is hanging in there, port jobs are hard to come by, we lost the hollywood bid for studio and filming, and now TESLA. Mayor Foster and his city management team screwed up again!!! Can't you guys do something right? He doesn't have my 2010 support.

• Only a Hollywood Idiot like John 'Stumpy' Pepys could afford a $100,000 Coal Powered car to go Go Green Snob! Al Gore is the Canary in the Coal Mine Shaft when it comes to Green. Mr Self-Proclaimed Tobacco farmer, son of Occidental Petroleum (Occidental Coal) insider Al Gore Sr. and insider and major shareholder, Al Gorlione IS the Bernie Madoff of the Eco Movement. But since the Greens are apparently smoking their Greens, they forgive some people (Demorats?) the past...even, in this case the Entertainment industry forgiving Al and Tipper for the 1980's Parent Music Resource Center / Senate hearings on "indecency" in music and album art. Guess the bands are ok with the Parental Warning Labels now that Big Al has gone Green?

• Becky's point is a really good one. And on top of that, in almost every case, you're better off buying a relatively fuel efficient used car (say a 30MPG Carolla) than a new hybrid, because the bulk of the CO2 emissions associated with cars comes from manufacturing. Here's a great article that explains it: http://www.slate.com/id/2194989/ If there's a silver lining to introducing more electric cars into California, it's that we have one of the lowest dependencies on coal for electricity generation, as it's virtually banned in the state (although DWP in LA is notorious for being highly dependent on out of state coal plants) (info: http://www.eoearth.org/article/Energy_profile_of_California,_United_States).

• It's a nice looking car, but what I find so funny about this whole love over "electric" cars is that the proponents seem to miss the irony. Meaning, they want to reduce greenhouse emissions by reducing the use of fuels such as gas or coal. However, what do they think produces the electricity to charge this car? Unless you want to allow more nuclear plants, it seems to me you are not reducing greenhouse gas emissions one bit. I am sorry, but I am one of those skeptics about this whole "green" movement. Oh, and next time you see Al Gore, ask him how much he and his friends have made trading carbon credits on the Chicago Climate Exchange (on the Board of which, I believe, Begley sits on).
