It looks like Los Angeles Time-Warner subscribers will usher in the New Year with the subtraction of a major network from their cable boxes. Yesterday we told you how the Fox network was threatening to pull its programming from Time-Warner by Friday if the cable company doesn't meet its price of $1 per subscriber per month for Fox's content.

A proposal of third-party arbitration for the negotiations offered by U.S. Sen. John Kerry was rejected by Fox, making it more likely that subscribers will experience a Fox-free New Year (and we're talking NFL games, Family Guy and, if a deal is never reached, American Idol).

"This is an issue that needs to be settled at the bargaining table," Chase Carey, CEO of Fox parent News Corp., wrote to Kerry. "Binding arbitration all too often looks to the past, not the future."
