Ain't No Party Like A (Free) West Coast Party

Thursday afternoon the county of Los Angeles hosts its 50th annual free holiday party, a tradition started by the late, legendary county Supervisor Kenneth Hahn. His son, former Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn, says the occasion just might bring him back to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for the first time in years.

"I haven't been there in a few years," Hahn, now a Superior Court judge, says, "but this might be a good year to go back."

The 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. event will see 41 acts and 1,000 total performers on-stage at different times. Artists will include the Hollywood Master Chorale, Klezmer Juice, the Valleyaires Barbershop Chorus and the Mariachi Divas.

Organizers are expecting as many as 10,000 people and they advise party-goers to arrive well before doors open at 2 p.m., although some insiders say parking gets easier after the sun goes down.
