Home Invaders Flee In Porsche

For nearly 45 years the Porsche 911 has been everyman's object of desire in the U.S., an exotic and sometimes super car for a fraction of the cost of a Ferrari. Despite its quirky, rear-engined configuration and back seats that could only comfortably accommodate Oompa-Loompas, the ovoid sports car has remained a drool-worthy icon.

And so it was Thursday when two gunmen targeted victims in the 500 block of Whitney Place in Monterey Park, pulling off not only a home-invasion robbery, but a Porsche-napping as well.

It happened about 3:35 a.m. when six people returned home (not all of them in the Porsche, we presume) and gunman approached two who had remained outside, forcing them into the residence, tying up everyone, rifling through the house, and taking computers, cash and one 911, said Monterey Park police Sgt. Frank Duke said.

One victim sustained a minor injury during the robbery. Police are investigating whether the victims were followed home. The Porsche is described as a 2001 maroon Carrera with license plate number 6DVY943.
