After the middle-school hate crime that was "kick a ginger" day, an area student promoting follicle (and freckled) diversity has started to get the pendulum moving the proper direction.

Andrew Cohen, a senior at New Community Jewish High School in West Hills, is organizing the official "hug a ginger day" for Dec. 8, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The 17-year-old from Agoura Hills, near where the all the hate seemed to start, has started a viral movement via Facebook to promote the day, and 3,410 other Facebook members have pledged to join in this "Kumbaya" moment.

"I thought it would be a little thing," Cohen said. "But it blew up."

Indeed. We're personally planning on getting our hands on Lindsay Lohan to express our unity ASAP. Redheads are people too. And, as is often said about President Obama and any other black person with a college degree, they can be articulate and so well-spoken as well.

As we reported Monday, three students at A.E. Wright Middle School in Calabasas were arrested for kicking and attacking as many as seven redheaded students as part of "kick a ginger" day festivities Nov. 20. We say there's no place for anti-gingites in our society.
