Polanski's Victim Wants Him Off The Hook
Attorneys for the victim of Roman Polanski indicated they will file papers asking a judge in the 33-year-old case to sentence him to time already served, KTLA reports.
An attorney for Samantha Geimer, who was 13 when Polanski had sex with her, wants the director sentenced "in absentia" for the crime. Polanski is being held under house arrest in Switzerland as the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office attempts to extradite him for sentencing.
He fled the United States in 1978 after having served 42 days of psychiatric evaluation for the crime. He said he was led to believe that was all the time he would serve under a plea agreement, but a judge indicated more, harder time could be in store, and Polanski bolted to France. In September he was nabbed during a trip to Switzerland to pick up an award.
Polanski's attorneys are asking that a judge sentence him from afar -- without extradition. An appeals court last month suggested that the director could be sentenced in absentia for time served, ending the saga.
Geimer has supported Polanski after she reached a monetary settlement with the director. A hearing on the case is scheduled in Los Angeles Friday.
