• When you have a famous person the likes of Lindsay Lohan, in jail it's a sizable job for the guards, they don't wish that. They're taking a lot of press and focus on their jail. It gets all the other convicts provoked, it's not a satisfactory position. • I live in Wilmington, Ohio. At one time Wilmington was the home of an air base. Airborne Express purchased the closed air base for one of their major hubs; employment in our county seat town and area greatly increased. The only drawback - all of us living along the flight path had to get used to incoming flights late at night and outgoing flights from 2:00AM on. We survived! Airborne Express was bought out by DHL a couple of years ago. Last year DHL closed the hub leaving 8,000 persons out of work. I guarantee the residents of Wilmington would welcome the noise once again!

I have lived east of the SM airport for over 30 years, my husband for over 60 years, and when I moved here the airport was used for the most part as a recreational, general aviation air park. We felt welcoming to the prop planes that flew over our home. Now our pleasant neighborhood airport has become a monstrous, noisome, polluting neighbor. More and more fractional jet corporations and wealthy private jet owners are turning this small residentially located airstrip into what amounts to a commercial airport (while still being designated a general aviation airport!) Big business and powerful interests have moved in and taken over. It is as if your next door neighbor, whom you had gotten along with for years, started renting out his place to a rowdy gang. And when you started to protest this new state of affairs, people who hadn't experienced the negative impacts themselves say to you, "You knew the house next door was there before you moved in." As if "It was here first" absolves all kinds of abuses. Please.

• To those who think we're simply stupid for choosing to live near an airport, I'd like to explain that most of us moved into the neighborhood when jet traffic was much less. The increase was sudden and tremendous, as Marty Rubin points out. We have nothing against general aviation or a reasonable number of small planes appropriate to the size and location of this airport. But should wealth give someone the right to poison children?

• Yikes! Who are these people making these comments? By EPA standards the pollution levels at Santa Monica Airport are too high from the jet's spewing their fine particulant matter. There is now multiple corroborating evidence such as the independent UCLA study. By FAA standards due to the airport's size the runways are too short and unsafe for jet travel. Santa Monica Airport and its surrounding neighborhood were never set up for jet travel. This is just the fact and we can all try to ignore them but the truth remains no matter how much money and self-interests try to dance around with it. Pollution and lack of safety affecting the pre-schools, elementary and middle schools bordering the airport should be enough. That celebrities and big money people, who do not live in close proximity to the airport, take advantage of the current situation is unconscionable. At some point as a society we need to step up and make a choice to do what is convenient in the short run or do what is right with an ethical concern for the future of our environment, the health of future generations, and awareness of pubic health/safety. This should be common sense but when money and power get intertwined in policy then the obvious often becomes obscure.

• I live near the Santa Monica Airport. My father was a pilot and a flight instructor in the 1950s in Michigan. I grew up at the local airport he built. I love the propeller aircraft and the bi-planes, especially the beautiful old ones. However, I have studied the environmental and human health effects of jet exhaust. Children and pregnant women, in particular, are in severe danger of cancer, learning disabilities and chronic respiratory illnesses when exposed to the concentrations and consistency of exposure as are the neighbors of SM Airport. There is no future without our children and no one has the right to place their health in danger - no exceptions, no excuses.

• This town is killing businesses. No wonder California businesses are relocating to Nevada and other states that are more business friendly--which by the people, businesses create jobs and pay taxes. When the businesses leave, the state deficit will grow even larger. I wonder if it's going to be you Nan, Dublin Joe and others who will make up for the rest.

My twin cousins, 7 years old, were being taught by me and my 21 year-old niece to ride two wheel bicycles without training wheels on the bike path circling the park. We were happy going around and around the park, and each of the kids were making good progress with their balance. Suddenly, a spume of noxious inhalants coming from the runway made it impossible to breathe comfortably. By this time the kids had progressed to the point that my niece and I were running beside them and barely holding the back of their bicycle seats. I began sneezing, then had an intense asthma reaction to it and had to take my inhaler, and wanted go home immediately to take a shower. But first their mother and I took care of the twins. We immediately packed up the picnic, the kids and the bicycles -- and left Cloverfield Park, never to return. I am a native Angelina, having spent a great deal of time at this park in the past. With the recent increased jet usage comes increased and unwanted impacts on the surrounding people living in nearby communities. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that it takes personal responsibility -- which includes sacrifice and effort -- to create important change. I, for one, will be supporting in every way all public figures who take the pledge to find alternate transportation than jet aircraft at Santa Monica Airport. • &#64;DublinJoe--who are you to say that it's too much money for private jets and what people should do with their money? I guess you and others forget that even with flying private, there are many jobs created. So if you close the Santa Monica Airport, where will these people go to work when California has an unemployment rate over 12%? Not to mention the fact that the people who live near the airport knew of the side effects of such or should have known. Do your research before you move to a neighborhood. Make more informed decisions. Hawthorne may not be a good fit for some, but may be for others considering the fact that those who fly private live on the westside and SM is more convenient. Of course there are other variables to consider, but to admonish those who fly private is ridiculous and sounds like economic jealousy.

One of the arguments made by the FAA against implementing the C & D jet ban was the Santa Monica Airport is necessary to east jet traffic from the nearby LAX. • The environment is not the only reason they should stop flying private jets. It is obscene to spend that much money when too much of the country and the world is suffering. Perhaps a $500,000 departure tax would reduce their flights.. and the money could be used for the right reasons.

• Satine Phoenix: I don't know where you're getting your numbers from, but Australia has 21 million residents and LA County has 9.8 million residents. Even turning to the five counties (LA County, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura) only nets you 17.6 million. But yeah, shutting down the airport and turning it into a park sounds great to me. Far too much activity and pollution there for something located in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

• The use of jets at Santa Monica Airport grew 1,800% in 25 years. That's 100% times 18. This would be enough to argue enough is enough. No environmental studies were done to understand the harm of both air and noise pollution on residential neighborhoods just across the street from the ends of the runway. Homes as close as 250 feet have the tail of jets taking off and pointing toward them. There are pollution odors that are literally sickening. The air pollution is the number one reason why jets should never have been allowed to use Santa Monica Airport. There is absolutely no justification fort continuing this environmental crime. One need only to watch the home video posted at www.jetairpollution.com to view why the community is saying not in my back yard, my front yard, my living room, my bedroom, my children�s rooms etc. etc. Really, not in anyone�s! Marcy Winograd has hit a nerve with her request to have Santa Monica Airport jetsetters go to another airport with at least some buffer between jet exhaust and people�s homes. Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution applauds her efforts to address this issue via another avenue. We hope all who jet in and out of Santa Monica Airport appreciate and honor the pledge that Marcy has put forward. Santa Monica Airport and the neighborhoods around the airport grew up side by side and the airport has been allowed to become a horrible neighbor by both the City of Santa Monica and the FAA. To suggest that neighbors move is suggesting that someone else be subjected to intolerable and harmful fumes. There is no mention of a safety buffer in the FAA codes that would protect from this close encounter of toxic emissions. Why Not?! Does anyone really think that this is fair in any way, shape or form? I could go on, but again I want to thank Marcy Winograd for putting her concept into motion.

There are 19 million people in ALL of Australia. Think of that! asking these 6 people to stop flying their jets... c'mon. Have you seen how many airplanes fly out of LAX in a given hour?

• Jets should not be allowed at SMO. In 2015 the Santa Monica Airport Land Grant expires and hopefully the airport will be shutdown. I'd like to see the land become a park, similar to Central Park in New York or Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Is anyone with me?
