In Lt. Gov Race, Janice Hahn Slams Gavin Newsom, Again!
| L.A. City Councilwoman Janice Hahn |
The video smack down of Newsom by the Hahn campaign is hard-hitting stuff, with Newsom saying that "for the life of me" he "doesn't know" what the lieutenant governor does.
It's kind of a deja vu moment for Newsom -- his comments at a pro-gay marriage rally were later used in an effective political campaign TV ad by anti-gay marriage forces during the Proposition 8 fight -- but it was not the "first salvo."
That came last week from Hahn's campaign manager Michael Trujillo.
Trujillo sent out an email to Hahn's supporters, writing that Newsom "never wanted to run for lieutenant governor of California, until it became something more interesting than dealing with a $522 million dollar (sic) deficit within his own city. So he did what boy's usually do, he tried to push the woman out of the race, out of the way, out of the light."
Yep, Hahn played the gender card.
Los Angeles newspapers didn't pick up that "first salvo" for some reason, but the San Francisco press were writing about it for much of last week, including Joe Garofoli at the Chronicle.
Garofoli published the entire Trujillo email in his political blog.
Hahn has hired a bunch of political heavies to run her lieutenant governor campaign, including hot shot Garry South, who excels as an attack dog. Until Newsom states his official position on the lieutenant governor race, expect more political roundhouses to come.
