Is Trust For Public Land Taking Over Acreage Behind The Hollywood Sign?

hollywood sign wide.jpg
The nonprofit Trust for Public Land was expected to make an announcement soon about 138-acres of land behind the iconic Hollywood Sign that was only a few years ago proposed for a housing development.

A source familiar with the operation of the Hollywood Sign told LA Weekly that the announcement, which will include a covering up of the sign Thursday, regarded the land behind the sign.

A press contact for Thursday's events, including a 10 a.m. ceremony at the W Hotel in Hollywood, was Tim Ahern of the Trust. He had no comment but said he would email the Weekly with more details about Thursday's festivities.

One can deduce -- as our Hollywood Sign source suggested -- that the Trust will announce it's taking over the land for the public good (and, conversely, removing from any possibility of development). But we'll have to wait and see.
