If California's medical marijuana laws make the drug so legit here, why to people still go to extreme, often-illicit lengths to get the product to the vast Golden State market? (We're going to answer our own question here and venture to say that there's a lot more than nonprofit, collective "care giving" going on around these parts, as the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office would surely argue).

Take the case of the 18-year-old U.S. citizen allegedly caught recently trying to traverse a pedestrian crossing at U.S.-Mexico border in San Ysidro with pot stuffed in the tires of his BMX bike. That's right, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency states that an officers felt the tires as a matter of routine inspection and suspected something sticky was inside.
The CBP states that a subsequent x-ray of the tires and an inspection by a drug-sniffing dog confirmed there was weed in them there all-terrain grabbers. Authorities said they found $1,312 worth of weed -- two and a half pounds -- inside the inner rubber tubes. Nice try. Seriously. We're sure some cancer patient would have otherwise benefited from the teen's wily efforts.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was being held in San Diego County Jail.
