A teacher who allegedly organized fights between teenage boys at youth probation Camp Karl Holton in San Fernando has been arrested on suspicion of six counts of child endangerment, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Stephen Wesley, 43, was arrested about 7 a.m. Tuesday, spokesman Steve Whitmore said. He was being held in lieu of $600,000 bail following reports that he encouraged boys to fight. Whitmore said there was "very strong evidence" against the suspect, while a county probation official said surveillance video of such possible crimes from 2008 has been turned over to detectives.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the suspect served as a lookout and referee during some fights. Wesley also allegedly warned boxers not to draw blood or tattle on him.

The suspect is an employee of the county Department of Education. He's due in court Thursday.
