Villaraigosa's Oscar Party Could Have Union Crashers

It looks like the stars won't be the only ones heading for the Getty House Thursday night. We told you last week that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is co-hosting a party to honor Oscar nominees at the official mayoral residence. Now it looks like members of the Service Employees International Union are going to crash the party with a demonstration outside the Windsor Square home.

The union is protesting city budget cuts and the 4,000 city layoffs pushed by Villaraigosa and the City Council. The "Day of Action" demonstration will be held in front of 605 S. Irving Blvd. starting at 6 p.m. Ever the star schmoozer -- he recently appeared on the soap opera All My Children -- Mayor V. must be thinking that this protest could rain on his red-carpet parade. His party starts at 7.

Certainly there are factions of Hollywood that refuse to cross union picket and demonstration lines, so this could have an effect on the guest list if the protest is ongoing as the stars arrive. The pre-Oscar event his co-hosted by The Hollywood Reporter.

The Getty House is maintained by the city, although a nonprofit foundation raises money for renovations and upgrades. A spokeswoman told the Los Angeles Times this week that no city money would be used to put on the party. It seems impossible to us, however, that not one city dollar would be used, since it's a city facility, with city staff, and city security. No extra cops will be on-hand? Or is The Hollywood Reporter footing the bill for LAPD overtime?

Just asking.
