• Ok, just so I'm clear, smoking pot makes peanut butter/chocolate, going pee and masterabating seem better than they actually are? Well if that fact alone doesnt' bring on world peace I dont' know what will! so it's a win/win. smoke pot, no war.......no ptsd. Makes sense to me!

• I have a chronic, serious, life-altering gastric disorder. Weed eases my symptoms within seconds of smoking. It gives me significantly fewer side effects compared to anything else the doctors have ever prescribed. It also costs a fraction of what I pay for meds. It is offensive to me that the thing that helps me the most, and the thing my doctors agree helps me the most, is illegal for me to use for no good reason whatsoever.

• I used opiates from late teens until about fourty. Last time I kicked was methadone, which I had been getting for seven years. Pot was a huge help shifting my head into a better space to get through that. Massage would have been a big plus. I haven't returned to that (about fifteen years ago), and I smoke pot only once in a blue moon these days. I would be very surprised if my experience was unique. Cheers, Sean

• I use marijuana medically and for recreation but do to my illness i became addicted to other harsh prescription drugs and i dont think i would have been able to ween myself of those things without the aid of pot.

• Tigger, how is your concern about MJ any different than alcohol? There is a time & place to enjoy MJ, just as there is for alcohol. Dr. Drew and all those other rehab centers/providers make a huge windfall off of forced rehab via the the arrest and prosecution industry. I smoke MJ too, it makes music, food, sex and general being more fun, it highlights things in my life which i would never have noticed, things like.. : how amazing chocolate and peanut butter are as a combination. or my favorite : how good it feels to pee, marijuana seemed to amplify the endorphins sent through my brain in order to show me how amazing it feels! • Do not commit on soldiers with PTSD unless you have served in war..Legalizing pot would put the Drug Companies out of business, it would save thousands of innocent lives caught in crossfires. • I first smoked MJ in Oct. 1964, since then I've quit for extended periods of time on numerous occasions and for various reasons. I'm currently off it to support my daughter who is cleaning up her act. The longest I've quit is six years, because it wasn't appropriate to smoke with the job I had. I quit for five years while I studied Kung Fu, and became Tennessee State Champion in my division. Before the current vacation from it, I began smoking again, because I like it, and now I'm retired, so it doesn't really matter. I've never found it difficult to quit it, or anything else for that matter, but it is a matter of self discipline. Which is a lot better than that silly 12 step crap. As far as I can see the idea you need to fear some big daddy in the sky is more a problem than taking drugs and feeling sorry for yourself. The only real answer is standing on your own two feet.

• @Breaktheb0x I completely agree with you. Studies have shown simple things like caffeine are much more addictive then weed. For something to be addictive there has to be some kind of trauma/effect on the person if they stop using it. Example would be people that drink a lot of coffee can't function for the day without it. If you take a normal person off MJ they may miss the high, but they won't feel they have to have it to survive.

• One question for all of you who keep claiming that MJ is addictive; have you ever seen any research to support a chemical dependence on the drug? Hate to break it to you, but I'm fairly certain there aren't any. Truth be told, MJ is no more addictive than a bag of dorritos, and probably not half as harmful to your body. Please try to educate yourself before you go around regurgitating things you learned from DARE.

• Weird article. If weed is your drug of choice then no, of course it's not OK. If your drug of choice happens to be prescribed by a doctor, it's still not OK. Controversial as it may be in the rooms, you can still work a complete 12 step while on prescribed medication. In some cases, especially where mental health is concerned, it is absolutely essential to survival. But to suggest here that it's OK to use weed in place of cocaine or alcohol while you're at Betty Ford? Weird. If you have problems with addiction, it doesn't matter if you turn to beer, weed, sex, gambling, or obsessively collecting foreign stamps... replacing one vice with a more socially acceptable vice doesn't make it OK.

• I am an on and off heavy chronic smoker, and i've also relapsed 4 times off of opiates, and no im not talking about vicodin. im talkin about morphine, oxycontin, and methadone. it was awful. i have severe anxiety issues comming off these, as well as the flu basically, and it was terrible, but, with MJ, i could eat, no anxiety, no nausea, pretty much every symptom i had from the withdraws, was alleviated by the MJ, and the MJ i quit after my 2nd week off of the opiates, i look at MJ as if it saved me from feeling pain. I think MJ is a blessing to this world. Im no hippie pro MJ guy who's gonna sit here and tell you "YEAH BRUH!!! IT RULES!!!" but i will say that it has its use in the medical world, and people need to recognize it.

• Kev, don't blame your ptsd on bush/cheney. Last time I checked we have a 100% volunteer military. Should uncle sam pay the bill for your treatment? Absolutely. But it's not their fault. Also, a "normal" life to me would be completely free of drug dependency. Including mj.

• As a "recovered" drug user I have a hard time seeing MJ as medical or otherwise. It was not my drug of choice, but I remember many times I along with my friends on major crusades to obtain this drug and others. I am just worried of humans driving and operating machines, working on our products we consume, use, etc and using MJ as a recreational or medicinal one. I have not had to deal with PTSD, but had several episodes of major depression. If we are to be sober I feel it should be from all drugs including Prescription Drugs, MJ, alcohol, etc.

• PLOTZ is a good example of the brainwashing done by the pharma companies and their schills (governments reps). Until we get rid of the "PLOTZ"s of America, nothing will change. As a sufferer of PTSD (Thank you, Mr. Bush/Cheney), my life is normal thanks to MJ. No weight gain, no headphones, no masturbation problems. Meanwhile, many of my brother soldiers coming home wreck their lives on prescribed medications and alcohol. I know if i didn't use MJ, i would be in a much darker place. As far as "Dr. Drew"...who cares? he's a television "doctor". He cares about ratings more than the most effective way to help people. any 1st year med student has broken that code....

• Side affects may include a deep affection for headphones, accompanied by weight gain and chronic masturbation...but at least the streets are safe.
