Back in December, Councilwoman Janice Hahn wrote an open letter to her opponent in the lieutenant governor's race, Sen. Dean Florez, urging him to "avoid a costly and divisive fight" by joining in a pledge not to seek the Democratic Party endorsement.

"As we have seen in the past," she wrote, "seeking endorsements in the primary can be damaging to the Party."

Well, that was then. Now, Hahn is in the fight of her life against San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who jumped into the race last month. This weekend, she'll be waging an all-out battle for the party's endorsement at the state convention.

According to Matier & Ross,

Hahn is breaking out the checkbook big time, for everything from a Friday night chocolate and martini party for the convention's 2,800 delegates to "Hahn 2010" hand sanitizer.
Newsom's advisers say they don't expect to win.
