About 50,000 March Downtown For Workers' And Immigrants' Rights
Police estimated that between 40,000 and 60,000 people marched for workers' and immigrants' rights at a May Day rally downtown Saturday.

Arizona's controversial law that allows officers to check the immigration status of people they stop there was expected to inspire a massive turnout, but only about half of the expected 100,000 marchers showed up for the peaceful event.
In San Diego Saturday a wing of the Minutemen, the anti-illegal-immigration group, staged their own rally in support of Arizona's law. But it did not appear that any such counterprotesters were in the crowd in Los Angeles as marched north on Broadway toward City Hall.
In Washington, D.C., U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez was arrested as he protested for immigrants' rights in front of the White House, CNN reported.
In Los Angeles, police reported only one arrest -- for vandalism.
