L.A. County Leader Antonovich Calls Proposed Arizona Boycott 'Stupid'

• The boycott against Arizona is not a show of support for illegal immigration. It is about the constitution, social equality and justice for Americans of color, Hispanic Americans, and Americans who speak with an accent. Hiding behind illegal immigration as an issue to assert the Arizona Nazi agenda is as obvious as a swastika when you have pictures of State Sen. Russell Pierce hugging a neo Nazi. Those who stand with the authors of SB 1070 are un-American bigots. BOYCOTT ARIZONA or OPPRESS SB 1070 into the Grand Canyon. ; })-

• Fred, those who support economic warfare against AZ do not care if they are harming the specific audience they claim to be defending. These people live in their heads. Facts only anger them. I can tell you that, as an opponent to boycotts but someone who does not take them lying down, their boycotts against AZ are backfiring. Just like dictators all around the world, by attacking a "foreign" enemy, they distract their own people from their own incompetence, theft, and failures. Truth and time are on our side. To those who support economic warfare against AZ, "Hey stupid, your ideas are not more important than the livelihoods of ordinary Arizonans. Knock it off."

• I'm from Tucson, not the Phoenix Area. I am also deeply and fundamentally opposed to AZ SB1070. However, the boycott is profoundly counterproductive. A boycott would adversely affect people working in the hospitality business. A disproportionate number of hourly workers in hospitality are Mexican-American. This could hurt many of the very people who could be negatively impacted by SB1070.

• Last month supervisor Antonovich persuaded ther other board to urge the USPS to issue a 44 cent stamp honoring the Nisei veterans of WW2. And through the years Antonovich has been supportive of Japanese-American veterans. The families of the Nisei vets who were removed by the US Government during WW2 were United States citizens and permanent resident aliens, there were no "illegal aliens". But to condemn the "Relocation" only because citizens and "legal aliens" were affected misses a larger picture. The Relocation was wrong because all ethnic cleansing is wrong. Anyone who can't recognize that the Arizona law is directed toward Hispanic men, women, the elderly and the infants, has got his head in the sand. It is designed to intimidate persons based on ethnicity, not for any legitimate law enforcement purpose. If the majority of illegal aliens in Arizona looked like Governor Brewer, there would be no new Arizona anti-immigratin law, don't kid yourself. The law's supporters say that racial profiling of suspects for detention and an immigration status check is prohibited; but the law effectively requires law enforcement to consider race in deciding who will NOT be subject to the immigration stop. Sixty-plus years after the fact, there may be a postage stamp to memorialize heroism in the face of racist folly. It would be tragic to continue another sixty years down the road which Arizona wants everyone else to follow.

• Let's just say that I'd rather be an illegal Mexican in the USA than an Illegal Guatemalan in Mexico!

• Shhhh ... nobody tell Dennis Romero that the immigration laws "south of the border" are more truly draconian and well, how should I put this, xenophobic than in phantoms of leftist imaginations like Arizona.
