West Hollywood Target Stabbing Suspect Charged
A 34-year-old woman who allegedly stabbed four people at the West Hollywood Target store Monday was charged Wednesday in connection with the attack: The District Attorney's office filed a case in Beverly Hills Superior Court that included four counts of attempted murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Layla Rosette Trawick of Antioch in Northern California was arrested in the store Monday afternoon after an off-duty sheriff's deputy cornered her and subdued her. Her family says she has a history of mental illness that led to her losing custody of her son.
Trawick was allegedly carrying two bloody knives when the deputy collared her. "She was yelling 'I'm bipolar,' witness Allison McNamara told the Los Angeles Times. "'There's no witness protection program.'"
Two victims were treated at the scene and released. Two others were hospitalized and expected to recover, although one of the shoppers was admitted in critical condition with a current status of "serious."
