Flying Car Almost Ready For Your Weekday Commute In Los Angeles

flying.png
The solution to Los Angeles traffic congestion: flying cars.

The Federal Aviation Administration recently approved plans to move ahead with developing a highway-worthy airplane, according to CNN. The aircraft, called "The Transition", was created by Massachusetts-based company, Terrafugia. It is a car/plane hybrid designed to drive on public roadways and park in a standard garage.

It transforms from a vehicle to a winged aircraft in thirty seconds.

The $194,000 flying car, invented by MIT graduates, has been in development since 2006. The Transition required special FAA approval because of its weight -- 110 pounds over the legal limit for a light-sport aircraft -- which it received.

The Transition still has to get FAA certification and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing before it goes into production. The car/plane is expected to hit the market in 2011.
