As California voters head to the polls today, Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor hit the radio airwaves and, of course, voted for themselves.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, the front-runner in the lieutenant governor race, made an appearance on San Francisco radio station Alice 93.7 this morning, complaining that California is the only major oil-producing state that doesn't have an extraction fee for companies taking public resources out of the land, the San Francisco Examiner reports.

It's a theme his underdog opponent, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, had been sounding throughout her campaign.

Around the same time, Hahn strode into her local polling station at the Little Sister of the Poor Auditorium in San Pedro and undoubtedly voted for herself.

Hahn hopes to defeat Newsom and pull off an upset in the Democratic primary, then head into the general election in November, win, and become the first woman in California to serve as lieutenant governor.

Hahn will face the winner of the Republican primary, which has state Senator Sam Aanestad of Grass Valley trying to take down recently appointed Lieutenant Governor Abel Maldonado from Santa Maria.
