Michael Jackson's Father Files Suit Against Doctor Conrad Murray
Brian Oxman, attorney for the Jackson family patriarch, filed the wrongful death suit Friday afternoon on the one-year anniversary of the King of Pop's death in L.A. The suit alleges that Murray "began a course of medication treatments for Michael Jackson which was below the standard of care and ultimately resulted in Jackson's over-medication and death on June 25, 2009.''
The doctor was caring for Michael Jackson as he prepared for a 50-date concert series in London being promoted by Anschutz Entertainment Group, the company that runs Staples Center. AEG paid Murray to take care of Jackson, and Joe Jackson stated he would hold the firm partially liable for the singer's death, although it is not named in the suit.
Murray is on trial for manslaughter. Coroner's investigators concluded that a dose of the powerful sedative propofol helped trigger Michael Jackson's death. Murray is alleged to have given Jackson that dose, although the doctor maintains his innocence, and his lawyer argues that the physician is not civilly responsible for the pop star's death either.
