James Cameron to Plug Oil Spill By Losing His Temper At a Production Assistant

Federal officials met today with filmmaker James Cameron as they look for ideas on how to plug the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

No really. That happened.

Cameron was among a group of experts on deepwater operations and drilling who sat down with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency. No word on what he came up with, but whatever it is is sure to have four-quadrant appeal.

Cameron has already offered BP the use of his manned submersibles. So far, BP hasn't taken him up on it.

If you're interested in Cameron's political activity, it seems he donated $1,000 to Rahm Emanuel back in 2001.

He also served on a NASA Advisory Board, and recently wrote an op/ed in support of President Obama's plans for space exploration. Whether that means he can help out in the Gulf is, well... let's just turn it over to Gawker:

The rationale for Cameron's presence at the meeting is that he is "considered an expert on underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies." Which would be very useful! If our goal was to film the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history, in IMAX 3D, instead of stop it.
Who will be the first Republican politician to make fun of this? So far there's nothing on Sarah Palin's Facebook page.
