L.A. County Considering A Pot Shop Ban Of Its Own

Fearing an influx of pot shops from municipalities, like the city of Los Angeles, that have cracked down on their very existence, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will consider a proposal to ban medical marijuana dispensaries in its unincorporated areas, which include communities such as East L.A., Hacienda Heights and Florence.

The proposal was made by Supervisor Michael Antonovich, who said unincorporated communities would be the "locale of choice'' for pot shops fleeing from cities that have tightened up their rules.

This month a new law essentially outlawed about 4 out of every five pot shops in the city of Los Angeles.

"It is entirely unfair for our county unincorporated residents to shoulder the burdens and impacts of (medical marijuana dispensaries) when surrounding cities have taken steps to ban the use within their borders," Antonovich said.

The board was expected to take up the matter Tuesday.
