Raves Temporarily Banned At Los Angeles Coliseum Following Problems At Electric Daisy Carnival

• This is what happens when you let little kids go to raves. They take whatever their friends say is cool and then everything goes down the toilet cause obviously the poor girl took too much molly or god knows what. I DJ at clubs and bars, and at least there, you can never tell who's on what (professional party people). They should slap age restrictions on events like this.

It's a shame this girl died. These types of events should always be 18+, we all know people can't handle themselves and take it too far. This was one of those cases. I hope this ban forces promoters to enforce stricter guidelines for future shows. Everyone will be better off for it. As for the raver supporters that have made some stupid comments here, grow the fuck up. It's people like you that make decent folks that enjoy these events look stupid. Not everyone takes a bunch of random pills and dress up like idiots, and we don't appreciate you acting as our mouthpieces, especially if you're gonna sit there and type in aLtErNaTe caps or misspell words at an every other word interval. • My condolences to Sasha�s family. These events should be safer for youths but sadly life choices and influences are not always in ones favor at these types of events. A lot of things are going on at once. Loud music lights and dancing equal a party atmosphere. Raves have been going strong for over 15 years because of the infectious music and positive people behind them. It's mind-blowing to see how far Insomniac/EDC has come since 93. They have stayed true to the music and fans. They have been dedicated to keeping their events safe since day one. I remember a time when the biggest problem at underground raves was keeping real LA gang members out from causing problems. Bigger venues create new problems. I'm sure Insomniac will continue to do everything they can to ensure this doesn't happen again. Ban or not, EDC or not, kids will find a place to rave. LA is full of empty warehouses and buildings. Would that be safer alternative? There's no stopping it.

• This is most definitely not the promoters fault. I went to the event both days (first day sober) and they most definitely do not promote/offer drugs to the attendees. I find it hard to believe that the girl had ecstasy "slipped" into her water, because E is so bitter that she'd be able to taste it from just a sip. Although i feel compassion for the family, a 15 year old is just that- a 15 year old. Her death could have occurred at any other party/school dance/concert via drugs/alcohol/whatever, so i dont see how this specific incident can constitute that banning of future raves. If you think about the statistics.. 1 death out of ... 185,000 people? Not to make light of a childs death, because sure, insomniac could have been stricter with IDs. However, this incident could have happened to ANYONE uninformed about the drugs they CHOOSE to take, whether the person is 15, 20, 25, 30, or whatever.

I'm not going to lie, I did come into the scene with this wave of people, since it does in fact seem to be a trend. But I have fallen in love with it no doubt. It's in the millions... hotels being booked, resaturants, souvineurs, plane tickets, even water all help generate revenue for the city. If its not in LA... it will be in another city, this event is bigger than any one person, or two for that matter, and it will continue, it's in Denver, Dallas, LA, and Pueurto Rico. Plus it's only banned until the next meeting and most likely the ban will be lifted. Politics and money are far greater than any one person... sad but true.. I always had a bad image of "raves" but EDC blew my mind. If you've never been to one, you can't say anything. Trust me... Whether ur on drugs or not.. This event will change you're perspective on this genre of music. I don't want to categorize EDC as a rave bit it is what it is. I WENT TO A RAVE and ejoyed it to the fullest. • I've experienced problems with Insomniac (the promoters) before. Their either... A: Too lax with security B: Overly strict with it - I had to complain about sexual harassment (and never received a response from Insomniac despite trying to contact them every way imaginable) when one security guard lifted my bra and ran her fingers under my breast => WAY TOO MUCH. Another girl at the same rave said they cupped her butt and whispered in her ear that she smelled good. Insomniac needs to take more responsibility for its events and interact more with its attendees instead of taking the "we're promoters, here's a party, go!" approach. It would really help if they worked harder to foster a more positive environment for the music instead of just putting a lot of cool stuff to trip-out on in the field. OR at least let volunteers give people the option to test their pills (there used to be a group I'd see doing this - especially at large undergrounds) so that people are less likely to take bad drugs. Yes, it's illegal for people to take them - but I'd rather have them know what they're taking than to take a bad pill blindly.

• Um, pushing a button does not make one a musician? What if some of the buttons are black and some are white and the black ones are smaller and only half as long as the white ones. Is it required that the button actually pluck a string? Wait, that would still not be a piano. Would it be ok if they did not hammer a string? Wait that leaves out Bach to a large extent. If the button produces an electronic noise does it matter if the button is shaped as a keyboard layout or not?

• &#64; Jordan. Exactly. I attended EDC this year and the past 6 or 7 years. I love raving, drum & bass, and electronic music. I believe that myself, all of my friends, and most people who regularly attend these raves have been partying responsibly for some time now, that we know what we're doing, and that this lifestyle brings a lot of love and joy to us in a way that we can't find anywhere else. So for all of this to happen definitely makes me feel defensive about how our culture is being misinterpreted, misrepresented, and I'm very concerned about the future of this scene. But, while I do agree with the idea that people are ultimately responsible for the choices that they make, we can't deny the fact that there's a lot for a young first timer to be aware of in order to stay safe and steer clear of a bad pill, a shady dealer, whether she took it willingly or not. Although I feel like most of us are responsible and know what we're doing, I know most of us also have had to learn from mistakes we made in the beginning, but we lived, and she just happened to pay the ultimate price, which is horrible. And to be fair, the majority of my friends parents, mine included, have no idea that we rave, smoke, drink on weekdays, etc. Maybe technically it's the parents' fault, but obviously there's a lot more of a grey area in that, and we can't just blame them without really knowing what happened. So yes, I think it's unfair that these incidents will affect those of us who would like to continue going to events like this, but this is clearly an indication that there are a lot of kids that are interested in these kinds of events that don't soon enough have the right education to take good care of themselves. And that there's definitely a fair amount of danger and lack of innocence that we need to acknowledge, or stop denying during this time. It's just more complicated than all of these black and white comments.
