California Controller In Bell To Look At Embattled City's Finances

Categories: Politics

Responding to a request by the city of Bell's interim city manager, state Controller John Chiang was in the small Los Angeles County municipality Tuesday to take a look at its books. The move follows revelations of six-figure salaries for the City Council, which on Monday reduced its own pay 90 percent -- and record pay for three city officials who have since resigned.

Chiang said that if he finds anything untoward in the city's finances he's going to refer his inquiry to the county District Attorney's office and the state Attorney General for further investigation, according to the Associated Press.

Bell's interim chief administrative officer, Pedro Carrillo, requested the Chiang come down and open up the books.
