Los Angeles City Council One Step Closer To Banning Supergraphic Signs In Hollywood
After a crackdown on "supergraphic" signs earlier this year which included jailing a co-owner of a building on $1 million bail, the Los Angeles City Council is one step closer to permanently banning giant billboard signs in Hollywood. 
The motion, approved Tuesday, comes after a two-year temporary moratorium on the signs issued by the City Attorney's office, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal.
The city enacted the moratorium under the claim that the advertisements could fall off of structures and hurt people on the streets below; they also could block firefighter access to buildings.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce claimed that it was not consulted about the ban.
"What is most disturbing to us is that there was absolutely no consultation with the business community on a matter that may have serious impacts on future development in Hollywood," Hollywood Chamber Chairman Sam Smith stated.
