Who's Behind Janice Hahn Recall Effort?

L.A. City Councilwoman Janice Hahn
Today, Diana Chapman, a longtime watchdog of anything to do with Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, wonders who in the heck is behind the effort to recall the San Pedro politician?

"Honestly, I'd sign the petition," writes Chapman in a column on the CityWatch Web site. "But I can't if the accusers don't step up. That's the ethical, fair thing to do."

L.A. Weekly reported in a May feature story, "Lieutenant Governor of Paper Clips," that neighborhood activists in Watts, Harbor City, and Wilmington were plotting to back a successor for Hahn if she won her bid to be California's next lieutenant governor, so that could be one group behind the recall.

Watts Neighborhood Council spokesman Henry Broomfield told the Weekly back in May, "There are going to be a lot of people voting for her, but not for the reasons she thinks. If she wins, then we'll finally get her out of office."

Broomfield complained that Hahn has essentially ignored Watts, one of the poorest neighborhoods in L.A. that certainly needs attention.

Hahn, of course, lost to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom in the Democratic primary in June, and she will have her seat on the L.A. City Council for another three years.

Someone or people seem to be taking the next step and pushing for a recall. According to news reports, though, no one has filed the necessary paperwork.

Still, someone has put in the work to create a very interesting anti-Hahn Web site at RecallJanice.com.
