Libraries Can't Be Used As Cooling Centers Sunday -- Budget Cuts Are Closing Them

So the city sends out a press release today with a heat wave notice, warning residents of temperatures downtown in the mid 90s, up to 106 in the valley and up to 110 in the mountains. (Given that we were told that East Coast snowstorms "proved" global warming is a myth earlier this year by noted scientist Sen. Jim Inhofe, ignorant science turnabout is fair play: These temperatures prove global warming!)

Anyway, the city is setting up "cooling centers" at city facilities, including libraries. Good thing the heat wave isn't falling on a Sunday or Monday.

Beginning Sunday, libraries are open only five days a week due to budget cuts. They're closed Sundays and Mondays. So if the heat wave continues, the cooling centers will have to be elsewhere.

Monday at 9:30 a.m., there'll be a protest at Central Library to fight the cuts. A proposed $39 parcel tax to restore funding has been taken off the ballot.
