The Crown Fire in northern Los Angeles County that burned nearly 14,000 acres since it broke out Thursday afternoon was 62 percent contained Saturday afternoon, county fire officials said. About 2,460 structures near and in Palmdale remained threatened, they said.

It was one of two fires that broke out only miles apart between Agua Dulce and Acton in northern Los Angeles County Thursday before 3 p.m. On Saturday a third brush fire, this one in Glendora, broke out at 11:45 a.m. and consumed 15 acres. It was 80 percent contained by late Saturday afternoon.

The other Thursday blaze, the "Briggs Fire," consumed more than 350 acres south of the 14 Freeway near Indian Canyon Truck Trail and Briggs Road. It started only a few miles form the Crown Fire. Both started shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday.

The Briggs Fire was reported to be under control by late Thursday.
