It's Gettin' Hot In Herre, Los Angeles

June gloom overstayed its welcome, but it's going out with a bang: A heatwave is expected to hit the Los Angeles basin Wednesday and last until at least the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. "The unusually cool beginning in July will come to an abrupt end later this week for inland areas,'' according to the National Weather Service statement.

How hot will it get?

Valleys and inland areas will see 90s and beyond starting Wednesday, according to the NWS.

But the high pressure system that will take over our skies will fight with that lingering Pacific gloom, likely giving the Westside mixed results when it comes to heat -- including cool mornings as a result of a marine layer.

Even further inland -- deserts, the Antelope Valley, mountains -- will see high temperatures in the 100s, according to forecasts.

But wait, there's more. Remember that strange shower Saturday? The same kind of monsoonal flow could return late in the week, causing a possible thunderstorm or two.

"Residents of inland locations in Southern California should prepare for the first extended heat wave of the season,'' according to the Weather Service.
