The national NAACP on Thursday passed an emergency resolution calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigated the troubled Los Angeles County Probation Department following a wave of troubles for the embattled law-enforcement organization, including alleged physical abuse at its juvenile facilities.

The move follows county Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas' own request that the DOJ look into the the department.

The probation department has been painted as a house of horrors by various reports, with employees having gone undisciplined for serious allegations of misconduct, juveniles allegedly being encouraged to fight at probation facilities, and nearly $80 million that is claimed to have been misappropriated by department workers.

"The NAACP calls for a criminal and civil investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice into the acts, actions and omissions of Los Angeles County Department of Probation," reads the resolution passed at the organization's national convention in Kansas City.
