According to the Burbank Leader, officials are set to meet next week to hear reports on possible high-speed rail locations in the San Fernando Valley.

California's planned 800-mile high-speed rail system will include one station in the Valley. Representatives of the California High-Speed Rail Authority are recommending four possible locations for the station.

Expected to go before the board July 8, they include locations near Burbank Airport, in the city of San Fernando, near the Tujunga Wash at Branford Street, and near the Pacoima Wash.

The California High-Speed Rail project was approved in 2008. The trains are anticipated to link San Francisco and Los Angeles in as little as two and a half hours. The system would also serve Sacramento, San Jose, Fresno, Bakersfield, Anaheim, Riverside, and San Diego.

The project was recently awarded $2.25 billion by the federal government. Construction is set to begin in 2012, according to the Los Angeles Times.
