Promoter Of Controversial 'Electric Daisy Carnival' Rave Implements 18-And-Older Policy
The promoter behind the controversial Electric Daisy Carnival rave in Exposition Park last month has announced all its events will now have an 18-and-older admittance police. The 'EDC' rave, organized by Insomniac Events, attracted as many as 200,000 people and drew national headlines when people crashed gates and then a 15-year-old who had attended the party died at a hospital a few days later following a suspected ecstasy overdose. EDC was marketed as a 16-and-up party, but IDs did not appear to have been checked.

"Insomniac has purchased handheld ID scanners, which will be used at all future '18 and older' Insomniac events," reads a statement from the promoter.
As we reported this week the promoter had already vowed to go 18-and-up for its next electronic-dance concert, Audiotistic, at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino July 24. As many as 25,000 people were expected for that event.
Refunds will go to those who are under 18 and who already purchased tickets, the promoter stated.
Insomniac has also hired consulting firm Investigative Advisory Group "to analyze Insomniac's current and proposed safety protocols and procedures for the company's music festivals throughout the United States," the promoter states.
"These safety protocols will create new standard operating procedures adapted to the new challenges involved in music festivals, including Electric Daisy Carnival."
On Friday the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission was scheduled to receive a report on the June EDC rave, which was held there, and receive public input about how to proceed with future dance parties at the venue. The hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Coliseum Commission board room.
Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella, who has been throwing similar events since the early 1990s, had a hopeful outlook.
"We are confident that Investigative Advisory Group will provide the right additions to our existing procedures, and help us to continue to raise the bar for music events," Rotella said. " ... Though dance music is enjoyed by people of all ages, we are introducing an 18 and older policy at our events as we await Investigative Advisory Group's recommendations. Insomniac remains committed to providing a place for our guests to celebrate safely, and we plan to share our findings with all of our event venues."
