The death of Silver Lake's "Walking Man," Marc Abrams, was ruled a suicide, county coroner's officials said Monday.

"The cause of death was drowning, noted as a suicide," coroner's Lt. Cheryl MacWillie told the Weekly. Abrams was found Wednesday in a hot tub. The lid was on the tub when he was discovered, she said.

The ruling adds a twist to his death: The Los Angeles Times reported that the beloved doctor was being investigated for allegedly doling out powerful prescriptions. He was suspected of signing the notes under the names "Dr. Kevorkian," "Dr. Pepper" and "Dr. Dre."

The revelation didn't stop admirers from memorializing the man known for walking through the neighborhood, often shirtless and in neon running shorts, with a memorial stroll Sunday. The New York Times reported that hundreds of people showed up.

Some of his well-wishers want to name the walking path around Silver Lake reservoir after him.
