Los Angeles County clerk Dean Logan said this week he was prepared to issue same-sex marriage licenses on Wednesday, when a stay on the decision overturning Prop. 8, California's ban same-sex marriage, was scheduled to be lifted.

In fact the clerk's office will have special hours Aug. 18, opening at 5 p.m., the time the stay would be lifted, and issuing licenses for "extended hours" that day, according a statement from the clerk.

"The [county clerk] is committed to providing the highest level of quality customer service and will seek to meet customer demand for every qualified couple seeking a marriage license or a civil marriage ceremony at County facilities," Logan stated.

The office advised same-sex marriage hopefuls to check in with the clerk's website before showing up in person.
