An "excessive heat watch" has been issued by the National Weather Service for much of Los Angeles Tuesday and Wednesday, with "dangerous heat possible" and even record temperatures for the San Fernando Valley, the San Gabriel Valley, and the Santa Monica Mountains.

A high-pressure system is parking over the eastern side of Southern California, pushing temps into the triple digits, according to the NWS. Hot zones will include the following:

Santa Paula, Fillmore, Ojai, Piru, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Moorpark, Simi Valley, Santa Clarita, Newhall, Valencia, Woodland Hills, Northridge, Burbank, Universal City, Pasadena, San Gabriel and Pamona.

The NWS advised people to stay out of the sun, drink plenty of fluids and check on neighbors.

The Los Angeles Fire Department warned people not to leave children or pets alone in cars for any amount of time.
