As we continue recoil at reports of public officials in Bell getting six-figure salaries and city loans, not-so-comforting news has come out of the city of Los Angeles, where former municipal worker Lonnie Franklin Jr., the LA Weekly has learned, has taken home about $300,000 in city pension payments despite his criminal record.

Heck, he even worked as a gas attendant at a Los Angeles Police Department garage. And, even as he continued to work in recent years as a freelance mechanic in his South L.A. neighborhood, Franklin is not just receiving any old pension -- it's a disability pension. Of course, you know the man as the suspect in the Grim Sleeper serial murder case. Weekly staff writer Christine Pelisek has the full story.
