Los Angeles Is One of the Worst Places To Live, According to Web Site For Geezers

Los Angeles is ranked the 6th worst place to live in the country, according to a study by AOL's Wallet Pop. The website compiled a list of the top 10 worst cities to live in the country and using factors such as unemployment rate, pollution, crime, health data and other factors that would make one miserable and depressed.

You know what's miserable and depressing? The thought of getting so old that you use AOL. Who uses AOL? It's the Internet equivalent of "60 Minutes," Brylcreem, and eating "supper" at 5 in the afternoon. It's for people who were middle-aged during the "Mad Men" era, but weren't nearly as cool as Don Draper.

Excuse the AOL rant, but really, why is this company still in existence? Did they win the big battle with CompuServe? What are their best cities? No doubt Scottsdale, Ariz., and Naples, Fla., are near the top of the list, with all their great senior specials and water-slurping golf courses.

Anyway, pollution was a major contributing factor for L.A. being in the top (or worst) 10. The study found that the metro area between Long Beach and Riverside had the worst ozone pollution (basically, air pollution) in the country. That's not really L.A., but sure.

Other cities that made the list included Las Vegas, Phoenix and Miami. El Centro, another California city south of L.A., ranked first in the study for its 27.5 percent unemployment rate. We can't speak to El Centro, but Vegas and Miami are pretty fun, at least in small doses.

Move to htown. Big like la and ny. But the people r nice with morals and values. Plenty 2 do. Cost of living iz way lower than national average for a city this size. Housing is super cheap and itz just a good city. The only flaws are the intense heat, traffic, omg the humidity. THE HUMIDITY!!! feels like the inside of a bathroom after u get out the shower but add on 100 degree heat. Otha than that htown iz great

L.A is the worst city, that's correct. Don't come here it's horrible your kids will become loosers and your wife will leave with the pool guy or the rapper or the next door neighbors wife. You can't do anything about it. DO NOT COME HERE THEIR IS NO REASON THE CITY WAS BURNED A LONG TIME AGO. Only the low life come here. Also economiy the best to add is that it's dead LOL! So please get out but don't come.

Try living in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio....Texas for that matter in the middle of May-October and you'll find that living in Los Angeles is a cake walk...

This article is full of it. I recently moved from Los Angeles to a tiny town in Colorado and I can't wait to get back to the City of the Angels! Apparently, the writer/author doesn't get out much.

After reading the comments here I will vote for Walter Moore in any election going forward.

You know why LA is the worst place to live? Because there are 10 million people who came here to be "discovered".

If Steve La had employed such gross stereotypes to describe people of color instead of people of age, I have no doubt that the editors would have consigned his nasty little piece to the trash.

Well now, Laurie, you paint a pretty picture. I'm going to have take a drive out out there sometime. Sounds pretty nice.

No such thing as bad publicity!

I was interested in finding out how Wallet Pop came up with El Centro as the number one worst places to live. Has the person came up with the list ever been to Imperial Valley?

While our unemployment rate is high, it is not due to the lack of jobs, but migrant farmworkers who apply for unemployment in the off season.

I love living in Imperial Valley and have been here all of my life. If we want to enjoy the desert, it is only 10 minutes away; mountains are 30 minutes away; and beaches less than two hours.

We have no traffic to speak of and if you want peace and quiet, take a walk on a dirt road bordering farmfields.

People who do visit here will tell you that we are the friendliest community to visit.

Although we have hot summers, we rarely see rain. The sun shines about 360 days out of the year. Just ask the many winter visitors who flock here during the fall/winter/spring months.

Old ploy: publish a story bashing a major city and get people to mention your name again and again. Let it die...just like aol...oops, I just said their name.

Yeah, how could a company that makes its money off advertising to a audience so uninformed that they can't even figure out there's a whole other Web out there possibly stay in business

So L.A. is worse than Newark, Detroit, Philadelphia, Memphis, Gary, Indiana, and Oakland? Those oldsters at AOL may want to get checked for Dementia.

P.S. I DO find it somewhat depressing that all the TV shows I watch feature ads for artificial knees, flaccid penises, brittle bones, incontinence, hair dye for men, and the like. I need a better demographic, man.
